The original creators of the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch for a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that established the company alongside Jerry Greenfield, disclosed how he plans to personally create the controversial flavor as part of an individual collection highlighting causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from speaking out about.

Longstanding Dispute Between Founders versus Parent Company

This latest development escalates the ongoing conflict among the world-famous ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant that has owned Ben & Jerry's since 2000.

The co-founders have asserted that Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Sorbet as an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen announced through an Instagram video how he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting consumer ideas regarding the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder declared from a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has become a symbol for solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its coloration, which match those of Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Recent Changes

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales within disputed territories.

The new dessert series is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand which originally created several years back to support former political contender Bernie Sanders with the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Future Plans

Mr. Cohen indicated that he will create other frozen dessert varieties focusing on issues which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield resigned his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following decades of involvement, citing concerns regarding how its independence had been compromised following Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen stated that “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was deeply distressing him."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence ensuring that it can actualise its ethical purpose, the principles which it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
