Fast bowler Gus Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Concerns.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson goes off suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test against Australia.

Atkinson felt a problem in his left leg after the final ball that he bowled at the MCG.

Team management reported the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "during the day".

The concluding match of the tour in Sydney starts at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and another paceman with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as cover for Wood.

His form was underwhelming early in the series, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted from the previous Test, then recalled for the fourth Test to fill the void.

Atkinson performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 with the bat among just a trio of teammates to get into double digits.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Yet, at the end of the fifth over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and promptly felt at his leg.

The English bowler was recalled for the Melbourne match following his omission the previous Test.
