Jurgen Klopp admits coming back to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown since 1990, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won England's top flight under Arne Slot, though countless followers who revere Klopp would welcome the notion that he might come back one day. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I won't manage another team within the country. Which implies in case it's my former club...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I might decide in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would need to occur to draw him back to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be during downpours through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or constant media duties each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. Success was frequent meaning regularly positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears as an instance.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the adjustments that won the league in the previous season. They've been defeated four in a row across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion it could be a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. Jota was killed in a road accident alongside his brother this past summer.
“Can you substitute such an individual? It goes beyond his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I struggle to conceive the dressing room absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. No one within the club will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. You walk in a dressing room where he was omnipresent. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Impossible.”
