Recent Oil Plant Assault Shows 'No Secure Places in Russia's Distant Backlines'

Ukraine's unmanned aerial vehicles have hit Russia's oil processing plant in Ufa, located some 1,400 km from the Ukrainian border, causing explosions and a fire, according to a source in Ukraine's intelligence agency.

This represents the 3rd intelligence long-range attack in Bashkortostan in the recent weeks. Such attacks show that there are no safe places in the distant backlines of the Russian state.

Ukrainian President Appeals to Trump to Mediate Truce in the Conflict

President Zelenskyy urged the US President to mediate a ceasefire in Ukraine in a phone call on the weekend.

"When a war can be halted in a particular zone, then certainly further hostilities can be halted as well, including the Russian aggression," the President stated, hailing Trump's "exceptional" Middle East ceasefire plan and requesting the President to compel the Russian government into discussions.

Moscow's Assaults Claim Lives in Ukraine

Moscow's assaults on Ukrainian territory resulted in the deaths of five people on Saturday and disrupted electricity to sections of the southern Odesa oblast, per Ukrainian officials.

Two civilians were killed within a religious building in the town when it was struck, per municipal sources.

In Russia's frontier area of the Belgorod region, a vehicle operator was fatally wounded by a Ukrainian strike, per local officials.

Energy Repair Operations in the Capital

Operations carried on on the weekend to restore power in Kyiv, after Russian attacks.

Energy had been restored to in excess of 800,000 inhabitants by the weekend and the largest power firm said the main work to recover electricity was concluded though some outages persisted.

Anti-Aircraft Efforts and Drone Jamming

Ukraine's anti-aircraft systems downed or disrupted fifty-four of 78 total Russian drones launched targeting the country overnight, the air force said on the weekend.

Russia's defense officials stated it eliminated 42 enemy drones over the country's airspace.

Cuban Government Denies Claims of Providing Troops to the War

Cuba on the weekend denied American claims it has provided soldiers to fight in the conflict in Ukraine, while declaring the government "are without exact information about Cuban nationals" participating "independently" or "in the military forces of the conflicting parties".

The foreign ministry in Havana announced 26 Cuban citizens had been sentenced to jail sentences ranging from 5 to 14 years for mercenary activity since last September when information circulated of Cubans being dispatched to the frontlines in the conflict.

Surrender Initiative Project Reports Data on Cuban National Recruitment

The surrender initiative, a state program that promotes adversaries to give up, reported in spring: "We reliably know the personal data of over a thousand Cubans who signed contracts with the Moscow's troops in recently."

The government in Havana commented of Cuban nationals who might be engaged: "It is irrefutable that not a single one possesses the backing, commitment, or authorization of the Cuban authorities for their actions."

Family members of Cuban nationals who departed to the Russian Federation in 2023 reported to international media at the time that their loved ones had been misled into enlisting through ads on online platforms.
