Sir Keir Starmer is expected to urge supporting countries to supply Ukraine with further extended-range weaponry to strike Moscow's positions during a meeting in the UK capital on Friday.

Sir Keir will host Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky alongside the so-called "alliance of supportive nations", including more than 20 of Ukraine's allies who have pledged to provide Ukraine defense assurances once hostilities pause is brokered.

Zelensky has been pleading for weeks for further long-range weapons from the West, an action that Russia has warned would escalate the conflict.

The Ukrainian president is coming from the EU capital, where he conferred with European representatives on the previous day requesting economic assistance.

"The only person participating in the ongoing war who does not want to halt the fighting is President Putin," Sir Keir said.
