The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several key changes:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, since it gives more options for players seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Support
"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while another details all the issues they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
