The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic choice, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the excitement and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, Critical Role has stated that the animated show will have a few surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
