The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
